This post has info about the requirements -
http://forums.wirejewelryintl.org/tool/post/wjaintl/vpost?id=723368

If you think your site is ready and you wish to apply, the application is here
http://wirejewelryartists.wufoo.com/forms/jewelry-artist-direct-application/

There is a selection committee that reviews your site against the requirements. They will send you an email to let you know approved or not. If approved, you need make sure you have a link back to JAD and send images for the gallery tour, then you will be added.

This question came off the emails and I thought I'd post a copy of the answer here, for those with the same questions  -

Can you tell me...a membership with Jewelry Artist Direct, is that also a membership with the International Guild of Wire Jewelry Artists...are they one in the same?

And, can you also tell me, does the JAD do any advertising...as in...do you actively advertise so that the member, by joining, is getting put 'out there' as a result?  Hmm...not sure that made sense.  I guess I'm looking for ways to increase traffic to my site, and need to know that places I join, do some sort of active advertising...go after traffic.

The Guild (Intl Guild of Wire Jewelry Artist) and JAD (Jewelry Artist Direct) are related, but not the same thing.

The guild is open to anyone that wants to join.  The about us page, etc lists its purposes, goals, and the like.

JAD is one of the guild's projects focused on getting wire jewelry more accepted with the buying public.  You must apply to JAD and be accepted by the selection committee prior to being added.  You do not have to be a guild member to be accepted.  You do not have to make wire jewelry to be accepted.  IF you are a guild BUSINESS member, there is no extra cost if you are accepted.  (If you are a guild general member, you have to upgrade to business.  If you are not a guild member, you have to pay $50 per year to be included.)

JAD is open to all art jewelry handmade by the artist that owns the site with a shopper friendly web site.  The selection committee is not really judging the jewelry as much as they are judging the shopping experience.  That is so as we get people finding the site that they are not turned off by the sites they find.  The reason we take all types of jewelry is to help equate wire jewelry with the other styles people are more familiar with.

Membership in JAD helps traffic to your site because JAD is ranking well in the search engines.  Having an industry specific site like JAD with a high rank linking to your site helps your site - the weight on its link helps to raise the credibility of your site.

Our efforts so far were in getting the page rank up in the search engines.  We are now moving to printed advertising.  Our first ads are in the crafts report - targeting new artists and targeting buyers for shops, etc.

We will start branching out to advertise in other more consumer oriented venues as we move forward and are able to target the ads more closely.  That method of advertising is very expensive and we want to make sure we are getting appropriate bang for the buck.

I noticed you need to be a member of the international wire artist guild. Is the jurying process extremely competitive? Although I've been accepted to other juried events, I wonder about your process and the potential for admittance.

You do not need to be a member of the guild - and you do not have to become a juried member to participate in JAD.

Since it costs the same whether you are a member or not, you might as well join and have access to the members area of the website - but if you choose not to, you can just make an annual payment to JAD and not be involved with the guild at all.

As far as becoming a juried member, see http://forums.wirejewelryintl.org/tool/post/wjaintl/vpost?id=1134928&pid=10582771#post10582771

To try to help to clear up confusion as to whether or not you need to be a guild member to participate in JAD, I added this page -
http://www.wirejewelryartists.info/JADhtml/JAD_infoforartists.html

It is the link off the JAD home page and works as a buffer between JAD and the bb rather than going right to the forums.

If anyone can suggest additional information that should be there to lessen confusion for potential applicants, please let me know!
